DEWORMING CHART,DOSAGES & just as IMPORTANT -PROTOCAL...I also withhold food if possible for 12 hrs prior and up to 2nd dose if possible-no hay ,grass or grain-only water.-I dont withhold food if goat is pregnant, nursing or Very sick and if using prohibit I would not - I also would not do a 2nd dose of prohibit.DO NOT SKIP the 10 day follow up -thats when all of these worm eggs hatch! Don't skip it even if your goat appears to be doing better. I put the deworming chart at the top of the page because if your goat is acting off the first thing to evaluate is-Could it be a heavy worm load? Learn how to do famacha-there are videos online.Practice visually appraising your goats on a daily basis..
1) acting normal?
2) coat looks good?
3) maintaining weight?
Get your hands on your goats on a regular basis-you will be surprised how thin a fluffy or longer haired goat can be under that hair in the winter.A pregnant, fluffy goat can really hide poor body condition or super thinness! In cases of thin goats-
1) check for other signs of worms
2)determine if food supply is adequate(including water and minerals)
3)if it's an individual or a couple that are thin-watch and be certain that they are getting a fair turn at the dinner
GOAT NOT ACTING NORMAL
☆☆ sequester
as needed)
1)watch the goat and make a note of any and all symptoms
2)take temperature (rectal-keep a few thermometers around, dollar stores grocery stores even lots of gas stations sell them but when you need one you want it "now")
3)if goat is limping, check feet, legs ,in between hooves
4)look over goat for injuries,bumps,abrasions,bites,etc
5)if acting weird or moving strange and at all possible get a video
6) try to determine if goat has appetite, will drink and if pooping or urinating
7)if goat is not supporting itself prop up with hay bales or other
8) if temperature is low ,get warmed up
If goat is a doe in very late pregnancy, recent delivery or recently weaned inspect udder for immanent birth or mastitis(is udder strutted, hot ,cold, hard)
Is there any vaginal discharge
This sounds like a long check list but along the way you may have ALREADY narrowed it down or even determined the cause of illness or at least where to start,if you have not at least you have the info needed for a vet or a goat expert to try to find best course of action!
